Sangeethe
A Sri Lankan music community platform concept
Project overview
Sangeethe is a culturally rooted music platform designed to bring together Sri Lankan fans and artists. It allows users to stream songs, discover music events and buy tickets, browse/create posts, buy merchandise, and follow artists.
Problem Statement/Challenge
Sri Lankan music fans and artists lack a centralized, user-friendly platform that brings together everything they need in one place. Currently, they face several challenges:
Disjointed concert experiences:
Fans often miss out on concerts due to fragmented announcements across different platforms. Even when they hear about events, the ticket purchasing process is often clunky, limited, or inaccessible, especially for exclusive or last-minute shows.
Fragmented social engagement:
Sharing event plans or new music with different friend groups is tedious and disconnected, leading to a lack of community around shared musical experiences.
Interrupted listening and restricted access:
Music lovers face frequent interruptions from ads and are often asked to pay before they’ve fully experienced the platform. On top of that, many Sri Lankan classics and older hits aren’t available on mainstream streaming services, leaving a cultural gap.
Limited access to exclusive content:
From artist-specific merch to rare releases, fans struggle to find official and authentic products, with most exclusive items unavailable online.
Lack of cultural depth and discussion spaces:
There’s no dedicated space for discovering in-depth content, stories, or engaging in intellectual conversations about Sri Lankan music, its evolution, or its icons.
Target audience
Fans – General users who want to listen to songs, attend events, and support artists
Professionals in the music industry – Professionals needing a space to showcase music, promote events, and sell merch

Design process & approach
This project followed a user-centered design approach by leveraging established UX principles and common user behaviors observed across similar platforms. The process was iterative, moving from understanding the problem space to conceptualizing solutions and refining the visual design.
Outline my process steps
Problem Definition & Assumption Gathering:
Based on the identified pain points (e.g., fragmented discovery, suboptimal listening, management challenges for artists), I defined the core problems to solve.
I made assumptions about user needs and preferences based on general knowledge of music enthusiasts and artists, and common frustrations with existing digital platforms.

User personas
Competitive Analysis & Best Practices Review:
I analyzed existing music streaming services, social media platforms, and e-commerce sites to understand their strengths, weaknesses, and common design patterns. This helped identify successful solutions to similar problems and areas for improvement.
I drew upon established UX/UI best practices for dark themes, navigation, content presentation, and interactive elements to ensure a robust and intuitive design.
Information Architecture & User Flows:
I structured the content logically, defining the key sections for both fan and artist accounts (e.g., separate sign-up flows, dashboards, dedicated sections for music, events, merch, posts).
I mapped out essential user flows, such as a fan discovering a new song, purchasing a ticket, or an artist uploading a new track, to ensure a smooth and logical user journey.

Wireframing & Low-Fidelity Prototyping:
I began by sketching out basic layouts and structures for key screens, focusing on content hierarchy and functionality without getting bogged down in visual details.
These low-fidelity wireframes helped in quickly iterating on different arrangements and ensuring all necessary elements were present and logically placed.

UI Design & High-Fidelity Mockups:
Building on the wireframes, I applied the chosen dark theme color palette, typography, and button styles to create detailed, high-fidelity mockups.
This stage focused on visual aesthetics, ensuring consistency, readability, and an engaging user interface that reflects the energy and diversity of music.
Interaction Design & Prototyping (Conceptual):
I considered how users would interact with the interface, designing micro-interactions to provide clear feedback and enhance the overall experience.

Challenges & solutions
Challenges Faced
Balancing a platform that suits two user types (fans vs. artists)
Designing a genre-neutral experience (some songs are calm, some energetic)
How I overcame them
For balancing user types:
I addressed this by designing distinct, yet interconnected, dashboard experiences for fans and artists. Fans receive a content-consumption-focused homepage with personalized feeds, while artists get a management-focused dashboard with analytics and content creation tools. A unified navigation system and consistent visual language ensure a cohesive brand experience across both user types, making transitions seamless.
For genre-neutral design
I achieved this by creating a visual style for the platform that doesn't strongly lean into or favor any single music genre
Future enhancements
Next steps may include:
Paid membership for fans to get discounts on concert tickets and merch items.
Fan groups
Designing Sangeethe was deeply fulfilling. I was able to bring my passion for music, design, and local culture together into a product that bridges fans and artists in an authentic and exciting way.
